As the winter season approaches, it's time to start thinking about fashion for the upcoming spring season. This week, My Melrose introduces some key trending fashion colors for the spring and summer seasons of 2023. We mainly look to the color experts at the Pantone Color Institute for the palette to work with. Continue reading below for more information on trending colors, what we have for spring accessories that can help begin your spring closet, and what to wear with them.
Get Started with Pantone Colors
The Pantone Color Institute is an organization that defines color for fashion, product design, graphic design, and other various producers alike. In addition, Pantone acts as a consultant, forecasts color trends, and advises multiple companies to aid in using color for their brand identity and product development. Pantone started in 1963 by creating the Pantone Matching System, a tool to help select and reproduce color consistency using a numerical system and chip to identify and articulate color. Their parent company, X-Rite, is another industry leader; they lead in color technology and measurement devices. The endeavors of X-Rite/Pantone are the continuation of their expertise in blending the art and science of color that aims to offer complete and cohesive end-to-end color management solutions. In the modern-day, Pantone is available for use physically and digitally with apps and software like Pantone Studio.
Most people who do not work with color in their every day lives might hear about Pantone for their famous annual announcement of their forecasted color for the year. The color of the year for 2023 is Viva Magenta 18-1750. Pantone defines Viva Magenta to be “powerful and empowering”; it is meant to encourage experimentation and promote self-expression. The executive director of the Pantone Color Institue, Leatrice Eiseman, had this to say about this choice:
“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.”
Riding on Viva Magenta and its purpose, the spring/summer 2023 colors forecasted at New York Fashion Week in 2022 are a mix of colors that lean on the bold, quiet, and obscure. Eiseman’s comment on the colors reads as follows in the Pantone Color Institutes article:
“Colors for Spring/Summer 2023 are recalibrated for the new era we are entering. Blending escapism with reality, wholesomeness, and joy, we embrace the exploration of extreme contrast in mood and color,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “There is utility and basic-ness to this season’s color story, while at the same time, there is an uplifting vital sense of play that comes through.”
As the image above indicates, the top 10 Pantone colors are Fiery Red, Beetroot Purple, Tangelo, Peach Pink, Empire Yellow, Crystal Rose, Classic Green, Love Bird, Blue Perennial, and Summer Song. For the more conservative, the core classics Skylight, Vanilla Cream, Gray Lilac, Leek Green, and Macchiato are perfect for being colorful yet not too loud in their visual expression.
My Melrose Accessories Following Upcoming Season Color Trends
With our current product selection available in our spring shop, My Melrose showcases bright, saturated, and calming color tones in our accessories. As you scroll in our accessories slideshow, you may notice we have colors that are close or on point with Beetroot Purple, Classic Green, Skylight, Crystal Rose, Peach Pink, Tangelo, Fiery Red, Empire Yellow, and Gray Lilac. Our most prominent color is the Beetroot Purple, which Pantone describes as "an emboldened fuchsia hue depicting the fruits of nature." Another color thematic to what we've got coming soon to you is kelly green, closest to Pantone's Classic Green, defined as "a nourishing green imbued with health giving qualities." Fruit, nature, and health? These keywords are a positive inspiration for a wholesome spring collection and the drive to try new, healthy things. So try a fresh fruity drink, take a walk in your local botanical gardens in the sunshine, and do other beneficial activities.

How to Wear Spring Colors Based off Pantone Color Trends
There is a variety of vibrant, energetic, and calming colors that Pantone chose for their spring/summer 2023 color palette. How do you wear these shades, and what are some suitable clothes for spring? Of course, you can go off the selected colors and match the pieces together. But, of course, we have suggestions that might help start your spring closet.
A professional look can have our "Pink" Fuchsia Matted Flower Earrings with a Classic Green sheath dress and kitten heels to match the earrings. Wear this outfit to work and get all the compliments that might have once been unexpected. All your coworkers will be asking for fashion advice from you after pairing colors that seem impossible to work with.
Go for a lively formal look featuring our "Pink" Fuchsia Three Teardrop Dangle Earrings with a lace Love Bird portrait neck ball gown and sparkling silver stiletto heels. Whether this is for a prom, quinceanera, or fancy party, you'll be a fairytale princess bringing color and life with every step you take. Attention will all be paid to you, maybe even over the event's star.
A playful day-out look can feature our "Pink" Green Glossy Epoxy Flower Earrings with a ruffled Empire Yellow romper and Macchiato flat sandals. Take this look on a casual stroll to the botanical gardens or to a winery. Feel the light breeze of spring as you embrace the day.
Dress up our "Pink" Blue Metal Butterfly Hoop Earrings with a Vanilla Cream spaghetti strap satin draped maxi dress with gold open-toe ankle strap heels. Go casual wearing a Summer Song button-down poplin shirt, high-rise flare jeans, and white platform sneakers, and accessorize the outfit with our "Pink" Fuchsia Metal Butterfly Hoop Earrings for a surprise of color. For a different take, pick a Peach Pink apron dress and wedge heels with our "Pink" Green Metal Butterfly Hoop Earrings.
Stand out more than the sunshine, walking down the street in a square neck Tangelo jumpsuit and metallic gold chunky heels with our white "Pink" 2 Bead Drop Dangle Earrings. You'll be gorgeous as you peruse the day; maybe you're shopping or meeting up with friends for brunch. Either way, you're beaming with light and life with this look.
Did Easter come early, or are you a kawaii girl? Try a Digital Lavender pouf dress with our "Pink" Pastels Acrylic Flower Earrings that feature some Skylight and Crystal Rose shades. An interesting idea would be to finish with Vanilla Cream peep toe heels.
Finally, go bohemian in your approach and pick a base color from the Pantone selection and accessorize with either the "Pink" Multi Charm Necklace and Earring Set or the "Pink" Multicolored Glass Bead Layered Necklace and Earring Set due to them having multiple colors that feature different tones of the spring/summer Pantone colors.
